    MODIS EEMS300 With Backlit problem

    Hi,

I am trying to repair a MODIS EEMS300 With Backlit problem.

If I plug the unit in the cigarette lighter or the wall outlet, the screen will come on, the MODIS Logo, the menu and sub-menus. But, It WON'T come on when it is connected to the OBD Port of a car.

There was a post few years ago. However, there remains a lot of confusion as to the right value of the capacitor, the type of cap, and the location of that capacitor to fix the problem. There was also a mention of an IC. When is the IC needed to complete the repair?

Is there any other solution out there to repair MODIS EEMS300 With Backlit problem?

    Thank you,

Have you checked for power at pin 16 on the DLC?

      Ace,

These machines were never meant to power on with the power at the DLC, unlike all the newer machines that perform this. I owned a Modis Gen2 for a couple years and never attempted this, or heard from others that it would power on with the DLC. I do know the older Solus Pro's would, along with all the machines newer than these as well.

        Thanks for your reply.

Would you know where I can locate the Service Manuals (NOT User Manuals) on these Snap-On Scanners?

Nothing available that us end users would ever be able to obtain as far as a service manual goes. At least that I've ever seen...

That always includes a trip to San Jose for a teardown and rebuild.
