Default Problems with MODIS ecu adaption

I am having trouble adapting a replacement (used) ECU in a vw jetta with MODIS european software.

01 Jetta 1.8T Wolfsburg - AWW code
ECU numbers match on both ECU's
I follow instructions in the manual which states you must find secret 4 digit code for immobilizer 2. I found secret code scratchoff (behind instrument cluster) and thought this would be easy. its not..

ECU numbers read from modis confirm car is equipped with immobilizer 2.
Am able to log in with secret 4 digit code.
When I go to adaptation I get error unable to connect to ECU please make sure key is in ignition and MODIS is connected properly.

What i dont understand is it connects properly for reading of ECU settings and logging in but not when I choose general settings or adaption. Another thing is with old ecu back in I have a solid immobilizer dash icon now. I wonder if something happened with the programming on the remote. Any clues? Page 87 on euro manual

I have never done immo with the MODIS. If you are using the 4 digit code from the scratch off on the cluster, it should grant you security access. It is possible you are locked out. First check for faults.

During all of this you are attempting to perform via the cluster?

However I do it with my other tool quite frequently.

the code does work. It says connected successfully

the manual says connect with security code than go to adaption (10) and thats where the modis says not connected please check your connection and make sure key is on.

Adaption is the correct spot. I will wait for someone from SO to chime in. It may not be available as a feature in the MODIS.
